The Wordle Postgame Report is a brief analysis of a game of Wordle, the five-letter-word guessing game now owned by the New York Times. NOW THE EYE, looking for a starter, fell on the name of T.H. White. WHITE didn’t feel like the thing to open with today, but the general shape of it was nice and felt underused. CHIDE, then, which delivered a green I, neatly centered. With the E gone, the simplest assumption was that the I would have consonant pairs on both sides; with C and H gone, the range of available consonant pairs was narrowed. Playing STINK narrowed it still more: green K, yellow S. So the S and K went together: blank blank -ISK. BRISK or FRISK? BRISK was a better word, here at the quick onset of autumn, plus I'd thought of it first. I gambled against gamboling, and BRISK went green. A crisp, speedy game.
