The Wordle Postgame Report is a brief analysis of a past game of Wordle, the five-letter-word guessing game now owned by the New York Times. If you do not play Wordle, Indignity encourages you to please skip this item. The existence of the Wordle Postgame Report does not constitute an endorsement of playing Wordle, of not playing Wordle, or of the New York Times.
SCREW got me nothing but a yellow R. RAPID got me nothing but a yellow D to add to the still-yellow R. But—suppose the D and R went together. DRA-, DRE-, and DRI- would all be out. Surely the New York Times–refined version of Wordle would not upset the potential sensitivities of readers with DRUNK. The W for DROWN was already gone. What about DROLL? Not a great word, but still: DROLL. It would be foolhardy to go to a double letter so early in the game, wouldn't it? But if you never play a double letter early, you'll never win a double-letter word early. DROLL, why not? DROLL. The cat had woken me up too early. Playing something a little off and reckless seemed more appealing than doing the work to find a more reasonable word. DROLL. Winner.
