The Wordle Postgame Report is a brief analysis of a game of Wordle, the five-letter-word guessing game now owned by the New York Times. A REASONABLE GAME, even though it took a while. COVEN got a green E, which wasn't much to work with. Was I looking at two syllables or one? Would the next vowel connect up with the E or stand apart from it? I focused on the last letter: -ES would probably be a plural, and not a valid Wordle answer; -ED and -ER would be allowed, but I don't like playing along with Wordle's support for verb tenses and comparatives so early in the game. T would have more integrity. BESET? Maybe lately I've been overcorrecting for avoiding double letters by playing them too soon, though: BIDET. The T was correct, the B was gone. Round three was at hand, with no answer in sight. Test another vowel ( _ U _ E T ?) or go ahead and double up? One syllable, repeated letter: SHEET. Yellow S, gray second E. The ending was set, on -SET, but I was still hunting that other vowel. Take the most popular remaining one: ASSET. No luck. It had to be U. UPSET. Five rounds to get there, but it all made sense. I wasn't mad about it.
