It's an interesting argument, I suppose, if you haven't already fled the country, as I did.

"We live in a mean and stupid country, bent on its own destruction, and Donald Trump will tell us so - will shove that fact into our eyeballs and bray it into our ears, all day, every day.": No doubt. I found that living there was like suffering from a chronic illness. I don't miss it.

I don't think it matters much whether Cheetolini gets his favorite virtual soapbox back. The USA is indeed doomed by "social forces much larger and uglier than his own defective personality". The best thing about letting him back on Twitter is that it would hasten the demise of Twitter, at least outside the USA. In Europe, Canada, and other relatively civilized places, King Elon's idiotic notion of "free speech" won't go over well.

By the way, that Trump - Fail Whale chimera is splendidly grotesque. It's a fitting emblem for what Twitter has become.

This resonates with my Catholic upbringing: “we don’t deserve that kind of pleasantness… We live in a mean and stupid country, bent on its own destruction, and Donald Trump will tell us so.” Bring out the flagellum!

Having Trump front and center was clarifying. I think also obfuscated other painful realities. But it honestly may have been better for our Republic than what we’ve got now.

Maybe because I can relate, I like to think of the US is a person who just survived a heart attack. With a new lease on life, we see that we: are overweight, have a family history of heart disease, don’t exercise at all, have sky-high blood pressure, eat red meat at every meal and smoke a carton of cigarettes per week. And when we’re out of the hospital, we change our ways by….eating iceberg lettuce with our red meat now and then. Oh, and a piece of fruit for dessert.

If climate change were the heart attack, Democrats go for the lettuce, and Republicans go for another smoke.
